Projects Abroad’s Animal Care Project in Argentina is a worthwhile placement for people who love animals and want more practical experience with them. Whether you are a student considering applying for veterinary medicine school, a graduate, or simply a passionate animal lover, you can get involved in our Animal Care Project in Argentina.

Animal Care interns are based in Cordoba, the second largest city in Argentina. Interns work at an organization that focuses on the rehabilitation of a variety of animals that have been brought to the center because of injuries or elimination of natural habitat.

Volunteers work to repair a roof on the animal rehabilitation center in Argentina

Interns will be able to work with a variety of animals at the center, including pumas, howler monkeys, llamas, guanacos, and many others. As an intern, you will get involved with tasks such as feeding and caring for the animals, planting seeds for a reforestation project, working in the greenhouse, building pens for the animals, and more. You will also observe how the animals are treated and often have the chance to assist the local vet during an operation, or when checking an animal. The amount of hands-on work you are given will depend on your individual level of knowledge and experience.

Interns also help by writing blogs and recording the details of each animal, including the treatment they need and their age. Help with maintenance work at the center is also greatly appreciated.

Speaking at least some basic Spanish is recommended and the more you speak the more you will be able to get involved.

On your first day you will be introduced to the placement supervisors and the member of staff you will be working with. You will work 9 hours a day, with two days off each week. The days off will not be on the weekends, as that is when your work is most needed. Interns doing the Animal Care Project will live in a hostel based at the placement.

You can join the Animal Care Project in Argentina for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
