Law and Human Rights Internships Abroad

Learn about legal services, human rights, and social justice in challenging environments

A Law & Human Rights internship with Projects Abroad will challenge you and help you realize your potential. You'll get direct insight into global legal practices and and human rights issues. You'll learn from experienced professionals in real-world situations.

Sometimes we take our human rights and access to legal advice for granted. There are many people around the world who do not have access to these rights; whose voices are not heard and causes are not championed. As an intern, you can work with a local organization to change this.

You can provide legal aid to those who really need it. Or, you can help protect human rights and bring about change in the community where you work. Choose to work in local law firms, charities, or NGOs. You can specialize in corporate law, human rights work, or campaigns for social justice.

An internship with Projects Abroad will give you hands-on work experience you might not have access to back home. If you’re a teen exploring law as a potential career, you can join a High School Special trip. Or, if you’re an undergraduate putting together your resume for law school, an internship will help yours stand out from the rest.

Is a Human Rights or Law internship abroad right for me?

A Law & Human Rights Internship with Projects Abroad is a good option if you’re pursuing a career in this area. You'll learn about the challenges people face everyday, and what can be done to help. At the same time, you'll build your practical legal knowledge and skills by working with professionals.

You’ll work in an environment supported by professional lawyers, campaigners, and Projects Abroad staff. You could find yourself working on social justice campaigns to bring about change around challenging issues. Your day-to-day tasks might include:

  • Research
  • Case reviews
  • Shadowing staff
  • Delivering presentations

You’ll get to know the local community, including the challenges it faces. You’ll develop a better understanding of the cultures within another country,  including the issues it faces and it’s legal system.

If you’d like a project that’s a bit broader than law or human rights, you could choose one of our International Development or Social Work Internships. Read our full list of projects for internships abroad.
