Myanmar (also known as Burma) is one of the most underdeveloped countries in Asia and there is a lot that volunteers can do to help. Our Care & Building High School Special is designed to allow a group of teenagers to make the biggest impact possible in the rural area around Inle Lake in Yangon. Together, you will participate in a program filled with practical building and childcare activities.
For the childcare aspect of the program, you will be based at a school for the deaf in Yangon. Here, you will prepare and run educational games for the children. These games will work toward developing their social, physical, and cognitive skills, as well as improve health and hygiene at the school.
The building aspect involves constructing a traditional Burmese stilt house for an underprivileged family in the Inle Lake area. You will work alongside local carpenters who will teach you everything you need to know, so no previous building experience is needed. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about everyday life in Myanmar by interacting with the villagers and local Buddhist monks.
In the evenings, you will have time to socialize with your group and take part in cultural activities, like enjoying traditional meals and experiencing local dances together. Our staff will organize a weekend trip where you can explore beautiful temples and colorful markets.
