Important information for your journey to Tanzania

We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!

This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.

Travel Checklist

One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:

  • Invitation letters to apply for your Humanitarian visa
  • Local address in Tanzania (see below)
  • Travel insurance
  • A printed copy of your flight itinerary
  • 50-100 USD in cash to pay for your visa on arrival (we do recommend carrying 250 USD- 300 USD just in case the immigration officer advises on a Business visa)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (printed bank statement or a screenshot of your bank balance)
  • Country Director Glory Matoi's number (+255714 285 343) and emergency numbers (see below) added in WhatsApp and written down on paper in case your mobile battery dies.

Arriving at the airport

When you arrive at the airport in Tanzania, tell the authorities that you are volunteering with Projects Abroad.

At immigration, you must complete a disembarkation form/landing card. Please use the following address:

M Spirit Travel and tours, OPP PCCB BUILDING,

P.O. Box 16332, Arusha,

Contact Number: +255 714 28 53 4

Remember to inform the immigration authorities that you are volunteering with Projects Abroad and require a Humanitarian visa.

You must provide the following documents for the Humanitarian visa:

  • 50 USD in cash (100 USD if you are a US or Canadian citizen)
  • Support letter from Projects Abroad
  • Original passport valid for 6 months beyond your return flight

If you are staying for longer than 120 days, you should say you are a tourist and apply for a tourist visa (50 USD). Afterwards we will assist you in obtaining Permit C (800 USD) to extend your stay.

Meeting our staff

Our staff will meet you at the airport arrivals hall. They will hold a sign saying Projects Abroad.

In the extremely rare event that the staff member coming to meet you is late and you do not see anyone holding a Projects Abroad sign at the airport or if you experience any flight delays, please call Glory Matoi on +255 714 285 343. Stay at the airport in the arrivals hall until our member of staff finds you.
