We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!
This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.
Travel Checklist
One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:
- Original passport, valid for at least one month from the date of entry into the Maldives
- Proof of sufficient funds, such as a copy of your current bank statement demonstrating that you have enough funds to cover your stay in the Maldives. This is just as a precaution; it may not be required by the immigration officer.
- A confirmed travel itinerary, including onward or return flight tickets
- Completed Traveller Declaration, which must be submitted online via IMUGA within 96 hours before your flight to or from the Maldives
- Hotel address in the Maldives written down on a piece of paper and in your phone. The details can be found here.
- A Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if applicable (This is only required if you are travelling from, or have recently transited through, a Yellow Fever endemic country mostly located in Africa and South America)
- Valid visa if you are NOT a visa-exempt passport holder.
- Projects Abroad emergency numbers (see below) saved on your phone and written down on paper in case your mobile battery dies.
Minors travelling alone
- A notarised letter of parental consent in case airline or immigration officials request it
- Copies of parents’ IDs (ideally notarised)
Arriving at the airport
Once you arrive at the Velana International Airport (Malé), please proceed through Immigration. You will enter the Maldives as a Tourist Visitor. Please state your purpose of travel as “tourism” on any forms or if asked by immigration officers.
All travellers must complete the IMUGA Traveller Declaration before travelling. This is a mandatory online process and is separate from visa requirements.
After completing all arrival formalities, follow the English signs marked "Exit " to leave the terminal.
In the arrivals area, a Projects Abroad staff member will be waiting for you holding an A4-sized laminated “Projects Abroad” sign.
Meeting our staff
A member of staff will meet you at the airport arrivals hall with a Projects Abroad sign.
After meeting our staff at the airport, you will also join the group and make your way to your final location by speedboat or seaplane, depending on the times and conditions of your arrival. Please note that transfer times may vary depending on flight schedules, weather conditions, and transport availability. Our local team will guide you throughout the transfer process.
In the extremely rare event that our staff member is delayed, and you do not see anyone holding a Projects Abroad sign at the airport or if you experience any flight delays, please call:
Tomiko David
Please stay at the airport in the arrivals hall until our staff member finds you.
