We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!
This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.
Travel Checklist
One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:
- Valid passport for 6 months after your return
- Proof of sufficient funds, such as a copy of your current bank statement demonstrating that you have enough funds to cover your stay in Japan. This is just as a precaution; it may not be required by the immigration officer.
- Pre-arrival registration QR code completed at the Visit Japan Web
- Hotel address in Japan written down on a piece of paper and in your phone. The details can be found here.
- A printed copy of your flight itinerary including proof of exit.
- Valid visa if you are NOT a visa-exempt passport holder.
- Projects Abroad emergency numbers (see below) saved on your phone and written down on paper in case your mobile battery dies.
Arriving at the airport
Upon arrival in Japan, you will be directed to the immigration desk, where you will present your passport and the pre-arrival registration QR code completed at the Visit Japan Web before travelling. The immigration officer may ask questions about your reason for visiting and how long you plan to stay. Please note that participating in a programme with Projects Abroad is considered tourism for immigration purposes.
You will enter Japan as a Temporary Visitor (tourist). Please state your purpose of travel as “tourism” on any forms or if asked by immigration officers.
Local Address: Please use the accommodation address available in your My Projects Abroad portal.
If everything is in order, your passport will be stamped, and you will be allowed to enter Japan for up to 90 days.
After clearing immigration, proceed to the baggage claim area, collect your luggage, and make your way to the exit.
Meeting our staff
A member of staff will meet you at the airport arrivals hall with a Projects Abroad sign. The exact meeting point will be confirmed prior to your arrival.
From the airport, you'll be transferred directly to your hotel accommodation in Tokyo. The journey takes approximately 30-60 minutes from Haneda or 60-90 minutes from Narita, depending on traffic.
All transportation from the airport to your accommodation is covered by your programme fees.
In the extremely rare event that our staff member is delayed, and you do not see anyone holding a Projects Abroad sign at the airport, or if you experience any flight delays, please call:
