Important information for your journey to Spain

We hope you are getting prepared and excited for your trip. It’s not long now!

This page provides important information that explains what to prepare before departing and what will happen when you arrive at your destination. Please make sure you have a saved copy of this page on your phone, or a printed copy to refer to.

Travel Checklist

One week before departing you should go over the following checklist to make sure you have everything you need before heading to the airport:

  • Valid passport for 6 months after your return
  • Proof of sufficient funds, such as a copy of your current bank statement demonstrating that you have enough funds to cover your stay in Spain. Just as a precaution, it may not be required by the immigration officer.
  • Local address in Spain written down on a piece of paper and in your phone. Your accommodation address can be found here.
  • A printed copy of your flight itinerary including proof of exit.
Valid Schengen visa if you are NOT a visa-exempt passport holder.
  • Your Programme Manager number  and emergency numbers (see below) added in WhatsApp and written down on paper in case your mobile battery dies.

Isabel Torrecillas +346 00 035 640 for Valencia

Jean Ben Illouz +346 31 910 574 for Barcelona

Arriving at the airport

Upon arrival in Spain (either in Valencia or Barcelona), you will be directed to the immigration desk, where you will present your passport and any other required documents. The immigration officer may ask questions about your reason for visiting and how long you plan to stay. Please note that participating in a programme with Projects Abroad is considered tourism for immigration purposes, as you will not be paid and therefore do not require a work permit.

When asked for your residential address, use the host family address provided by your Destination Expert before your departure.

If everything is in order, your passport will be stamped, and you will be allowed to enter Spain for up to 90 days.

After clearing immigration, proceed to the baggage claim area, collect your luggage, and make your way to the exit.
