What you can expect
You’ll begin your journey deep in the Peruvian Amazon, where you’ll live and work at a conservation reserve. Every day you’ll be getting stuck into vital wildlife conservation activities, such as feeding and caring for rescued animals, maintaining trails, or providing enrichment for species under rehabilitation. Under the guidance of local experts, you’ll also learn to conduct animal surveys, climb South America’s tallest canopy walkway to survey birds, and help to monitor wildlife such as parrots, bats, monkeys, and crocodiles.
Beyond conservation, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the heart of Peruvian culture and explore its world-famous sites. After leaving the rainforest, you’ll explore Cusco and the Sacred Valley, visiting bustling markets, Inca ruins, and the awe-inspiring ancient ruins of Machu Picchu. With a balance of conservation service, cultural immersion, and adventure, you’ll experience a once-in-a-lifetime journey that teaches you as much about yourself as it does the world around you.
Why choose Peru for your Conservation and Environment programme?
Home to the Amazon rainforest and known for being one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, Peru makes an exceptional classroom for conservation education. In the Amazon, students work directly on projects that protect endangered species and restore ecosystems, gaining practical skills in animal care, biodiversity monitoring, and sustainable farming. Few locations offer such a powerful real-world setting to study ecology and conservation biology.
Beyond conservation work, Peru’s cultural heritage – from the ancient Inca capital of Cusco to the world-famous Machu Picchu – provides an excellent opportunity to link environmental studies with history, anthropology, and global citizenship. This unique combination of service work, cultural exploration, and natural wonder enables students to build resilience, teamwork, and critical thinking while seeing how conservation connects with wider social and cultural contexts.
