Teaching in South America

Volunteer on the Teaching project in South America tutoring school children in South America

You can impact the lives of disadvantaged children and adults by volunteering as a teacher in South America. There is no need to have a TEFL or TESOL qualification to gain international teaching experience with Projects Abroad. You do not even need to speak the local language where you are volunteering. Our Teaching projects are open to all volunteers, whether you are on a gap year, at university, or wanting a career break

Students in South America will give you a warm welcome when you arrive at your placement. A number of different opportunities are available for you, from teaching English and French, to teaching art, drama, sports, math, science, and other subjects. You can teach urban, semi-rural, and rural settings within Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. You will be able to teach in elementary and junior/high schools and often work alongside local teachers.

Teaching in South America - What Is It Like?

Teaching volunteer with her students at a school in Peru, South America

You will find that schools in South America encompass a wide range of resources. Most schools are equipped with educational tools, and students tend to have a good grasp of basic English and/or French grammar. As a teacher of English or French, you will fill the gaps by helping students better their pronunciation and conversational skills. You may find that the greatest tool and bridge for effective learning is yourself. The students will want to find out about you, the country you come from, and your interests, topics that can be incorporated into many language lessons.

Whatever skills and talents you have, teaching in South American schools offers a rewarding combination of the new, exciting, and life-changing, as well as the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.
