On our Building in Jamaica Easter Week Special you will help renovate homes

Renovate the homes of the elderly, disabled, and single parent families, on our Building in Jamaica Easter Week Special. In Jamaica, many live in homes that are unsafe, and do not earn enough money to fix them. You can celebrate Easter in a meaningful way by improving the living conditions of families who will benefit from your assistance.

Easter marks the beginning of the rainy season in Jamaica. For those who live in damaged and weak houses, this can be a very challenging time. On our Building Project in Jamaica we address immediate and long-term housing needs in disadvantaged communities, and aim to provide those in need with strong and safe homes. You can contribute to these efforts on our Easter Week Special

This project follows an itinerary specifically designed with short-term volunteering in mind, so you can be sure that the work you do in one week will have a tangible impact.

Your role on the Building in Jamaica Easter Week Special

During your week abroad, you will be placed in a team of fellow building volunteers. Experienced local builders and a Projects Abroad Building Manager will teach you what you need to know about building, and can guide you when necessary. You will work about six hours a day, and your tasks can include the following activities:

  • Concrete work (block laying and wall dressing)
  • Carpentry work
  • Roofing
  • Flooring/tiling
  • Plumbing
  • Painting

You will live with a local host family while in Jamaica, which is a great way to experience Jamaican hospitality, learn about local culture, share your own culture, and make friendships that will last a lifetime.

To make sure you can make the most of your time, our staff will teach you basics of the local language Patois, which you will be able to use with local people and your host family. There will also be planned social activities where you will get the opportunity to practice your reggae dance skills, or sing along to the famous tunes of Bob Marley on Karaoke nights. There will also be day excursions to YS Falls and Blue Fields beach.
