A Moroccan man gets his vitals checked by a Projects Abroad intern

Interning abroad in Morocco on a Projects Abroad Physical Therapy project will allow you to gain international physical therapy experience working in schools and daycare centers for children and young adults with special needs. Facilities may not be up to the standard you are used to and you will have to be creative in your approach to the job.

We work with a daycare center for children aged 3 – 12 years old who have a variety of learning and physical disabilities. The center provides a range of therapies for the children. It is a supportive environment in which to work and where the children are given the chance to thrive, including small areas with animals and gardens for the children.

Interns can also work at a school for girls with mental disabilities aged 6 – 15 years old. The goal of the school is to help the girls develop independence and be able to integrate into mainstream society.

At either of these placements, your role will be valued offering assistance the local staff to help contribute to improving the daily lives and future prospects of the children.

Interning Abroad as a Physical Therapist in Morocco with Projects Abroad

While you are in Morocco you will stay with one of our local host families. They will welcome you like part of their family. You can spend your free time with our active Projects Abroad volunteer community and explore the area with them.

Due to vacation periods, Physical Therapy projects in Morocco are not available from mid-June to mid-September.

You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Morocco Medicine & Healthcare Management Plan.

In order to participate in a Physical Therapy internship in Morocco you need to have completed a minimum of one year of related education and speak an intermediate level of French or Arabic. If you need to improve your language skills before starting your placement, you can join an Arabic or French Language Course, where you will taught by a qualified local teacher.

Physical Therapy internships in Morocco are available for shorter periods than 4 weeks. While you will be able to gain valuable medical experience on a short-term trip, we recommend staying for a longer period to allow yourself more time to get to know the local medical system, see more of a variety of conditions and procedures, and develop stronger relationships with local medical staff.
