Radio Journalism in the Philippines with Projects Abroad
The radio industry is exciting, yet very demanding. Interns on these placements need to be motivated and use their initiative as much as possible.
Interns have the chance to work at one of two radio stations in Bogo, depending on the needs of the radio station at the time. The first option is to work at DYVL radio station, operated by Cebu Roosevelt Memorial College. As an intern here, you will work as a DJ and have the opportunity to report on topics such as mythology, literature, and poetry. As a DJ, you may be invited by different departments of the college to host their programs too.
Another option interns have is to work at Hug FM Radio. At this radio station you will take part in tasks such as:
- Researching new music and news stories (both locally and internationally)
- Reporting weather updates and showbiz news
- Writing scripts for commercials
- Assisting with music editing
Interns work alongside a senior DJ/anchor on a variety of tasks. Your role will also include assisting with the marketing of the radio station.
Anyone with professional qualifications or experience in this field are also welcome at these placements and may conduct workshops in broadcasting for local DJ’s and other interns regarding techniques and strategies in the field of broadcasting.
All Journalism interns in the Philippines live with a local host family.
You can join a Journalism project in the Philippines for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
