Madagascar is the perfect destination if you would like to experience living and working in a diverse rainforest environment over your break. In Madagascar, Projects Abroad offers a two-week Conservation High School Special which gives you the chance to contribute to ongoing biodiversity and environmental impact studies in the heart of the rainforest.
The island is recognized as a global hotspot for biodiversity, with one of the highest percentages of endemic species on the planet. Unfortunately, the rainforests are under threat from the farming practices that the local communities depend on for survival.
As a volunteer, you will work alongside a group of volunteers under the supervision of our staff. In addition to working on biodiversity and environmental impact studies, you will also get involved in jungle reforestation projects and species monitoring.
This work is perfect for any student with an interest in the environment and you will be able to learn a great deal about conservation approaches from our local staff and project scientists.
During your time in Madagascar, you will live in a guesthouse and will be introduced to Madagascan life and culture. You might even be able to pick up some French or the local language, Malagasy! Over the weekend and in the evenings, our local staff will organize trips and social activities for you and the other volunteers.
