Projects Abroad volunteers help with renovation work at a school in Ghana.

Although Ghana is one of the most stable and economically advanced countries in Africa, many rural communities remain deeply affected by poverty and a lack of resources. As a volunteer with Projects Abroad on the Care Project, you can use your spring break to help children in care centers and schools.

You will be based in either Cape Coast or the Akuapem Hills. Here, your time will be split between working with children and helping to improve living conditions with some basic maintenance and renovation. Most of your work with the kids will focus on education, contributing to Early Childhood Development, playing games, and giving them some individual attention. Local staff will also appreciate having an extra pair of helping hands.

The maintenance and renovation work you do will go a long way in improving quality of life at the placement. These activities could include putting in a new floor or painting a bright mural on a blank wall.

During your time in Ghana, you will live with a Ghanaian host family. This is a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange and learning about day-to-day life in Ghana first-hand!

Getting involved in a Care Project is ideal for Social Work, Child Development, Education, or Psychology majors looking for practical experience. It is also suitable for any college student who wants to do meaningful and fun volunteer work over their spring break.
