Receive Spanish lessons from a qualified teacher at a local language center
Your lessons will be tailored according to your skill level by your teacher. During this time, you can focus on basic Spanish grammar and vocabulary, or work on your conversation.
Practice your Spanish by talking with local people
The most effective way to improve your Spanish is to surround yourself with Spanish speakers. We encourage you to speak to people you meet, and practice as much as possible with your host family.
When you find yourself a small local restaurant, order in Spanish, and try Guadalajara’s specialty dish: Torta Ahogadas. After all, the best way to really absorb a new language is to actively use it!
Participate in group outings that explore the city and culture
With our local staff, you and your group will attend the best shopping locations, dance classes, and museums! You’ll also have the time to do some independent exploration, and find your own favorite local spots.
Where in Mexico will I study?
Our Spanish Language Team Trip to Mexico is based in Guadalajara, a historic city with plenty to explore.
Guadalaja is the second largest city in the country of Mexico. Founded in 1531, Guadalajara has a long and rich cultural history. During your exploration, you can find churches that date back to the early 17th Century. While in town, be sure to visit the Hopicio Cabanas, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
You’ll attend your Spanish classes at our office in downtown Guadalajara. When you start, you’ll get a language evaluation and have orientation. From there, classes based on your initial language skill level.
You’ll live in Guadalajara with a fully vetted host family. There, you will be treated (and fed) like you’re part of the family! Our in-country staff will be with you every step of the way as you get to know your surroundings. As soon as you get off your plane in Guadalajara, until you’re escorted to your departure flight, our staff will make sure that you can safely navigate the ins and outs of this historic city.
We set out the aims and objectives of our projects in documents called Management Plans. We use them to properly plan the work you’ll do. They also help us measure and evaluate our achievements and impact each year.
Ultimately, our Management Plans help us make our projects better. This in turn means you get to be part of something that makes a real impact where it’s needed. Read more about our Management Plans.
Measuring our impact
Our projects work towards clear long-term goals, with specific annual objectives. Every volunteer and intern we send to these projects helps us work towards these goals, no matter how long they spend on our projects.
Every year we take a step back and look at how much progress we've made towards these goals. We put together a Global Impact Report, which documents our achievements. Find out more about the impact our global community of volunteers, interns and staff make, and read the latest report.
Safety and staff support
Your safety and security is our prime concern. We have many procedures and systems to ensure you have the support you need to enjoy your trip with peace of mind. Our Projects Abroad staff are available 24 hours a day to help, and will be on-hand to make sure you settle in well at your accommodation and placement. If you encounter any problems, they will be available to help at any time.
