During your stay, you’ll join some of the most committed people in conservation as you preserve endangered species around the coast. This is coupled with many social activities like spectacular sunsets, a hike to Volcan de Fuego and city tours.

Our Discovery Tour in Mexico is open to travelers over the age of 18. You are required to have a decent level of fitness as you’ll be going on a hike during your stay.

You and your group will be staying in hotels for most of your stay. However, when you’re at the Conservation Project in Cuyutlan, you’ll stay in shared accommodation near the coast.

Day 1 – Arrival in Guadalajara

Once you arrive in Mexico, one of our staff members will pick you up and take you straight to your accommodation while you wait for the rest of your group to arrive. Use this time to freshen up and rest from your journey. Once your whole group has arrived, you’ll receive a country and cultural introduction before heading out to a Mexican dinner. Use this time to get to know your peers and ask any questions you have.

Day 2 – Plaza Tapatia, San Juan de Dios, Tlaquepaque, pottery workshop and Mariachi dinner

You’ll start your day with a cultural visit around Guadalajara City Centre on a double-decker bus. You’ll get to see beautiful cathedrals and the picturesque Plaza Tapatia as you marvel at the amazing murals by Orozco. For lunch, you’ll explore the largest closed market in Latin America, San Juan de Dios, before eating your fill of Mexican food.

After lunch, you’ll explore the colorful town of Tlaquepaque known for its pottery. You’ll enjoy a pottery workshop and enjoy a nice dinner accompanied by the traditional Mariachi music.

Day 3 – Conservation Project in Cuyutlan

After breakfast, you’ll drive through to our Conservation Project in Cuyutlan, a small coastal town. The project supervisor will give you a rundown of the conservation work and will brief you on the tasks you’ll assist with. You’ll start off small with a biodiversity study where you’ll get to marvel at the magnificent wildlife that surrounds the area.

In the evening, you’re in for a treat. You’ll go on a night patrol where you’ll assist with the detection and relocation of sea turtle eggs in order to protect them from poachers.

Day 4 – Conservation activities and Comala

Your day will start early as you assist with tasks in El Tortugario, an ecological and wildlife protection centre in Cuyutlan. You’ll assist with the washing of sea turtles and their enclosures, feed the green iguanas and water mangrove seedlings. You can then relax around the pool or wander over to the beach.

After lunch, you’ll travel to the beautiful city of Comala. You’ll be shown around the city centre and then enjoy dinner at the traditional restaurant where you’ll enjoy the local cuisine.

Day 5 – Hike to Volcan de Fuego and kayak in a crater lake

Get ready for an active day in Mexico. After breakfast, you’ll travel to the base of Volcan de Fuego where you’ll enjoy a locally brewed coffee. Once you’ve refueled, you and your group will set off on a hike along the paths of Volcan de Fuego. You can then cool off in a crater lake as you kayak around the surrounding area.
