By volunteering as a Physical Education teacher in Romania with Projects Abroad, you can help teach children and young teenagers the importance of sport and motivate the next generation of sporting talent. You can volunteer on a Physical Education project in Romania without any previous coaching experience, as part of a gap year, career break, or even as a volunteer vacation. All you need is a strong interest in sport and a willingness to help others develop their own sporting ability.
In Romania, you will be working throughout the Romanian school term teaching sports in an elementary school in Codlea, which is about 30 minutes’ drive from Brasov. Under the guidance of a local teacher, you will be working with children between the ages of 6 – 14 years old, for four hours each day.
You can teach a variety of sports at the local school, including soccer, volleyball, and track & field. However, the school has limited sporting equipment so you will have to be creative and adapt to the sports accordingly.
Your Role Volunteering on a Physical Education Project in Romania
While volunteering abroad you could dedicate your time to coaching the sport you love or help with a range of different sports lessons and physical activities. Just let us know where your interests lie once you have applied and we will match you to a suitable placement.
Encouraging children and teenagers to become involved in sports means that they will be able to improve their overall fitness and health. You will also help give them a sense of belonging to a team with a shared passion and goal. This in turn has positive benefits for the wider society by engaging many of the youth in sports outside of school, which can keep them away from less wholesome activities, and give them vital structure and purpose.
You can join the Teach Physical Education project in Romania for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community, please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
