Monthly Reports from 2013

Monthly report – December 2013

From December 1st there was a brand new team. The only remaining member, who was already on the project in November, was there only for two more weeks (until Dec. 14th). The new members started with blank sheets and discovered all the already existing documentation all along the way.

Monthly report – November 2013

During November all the women’ groups moved into the third loan stage, with 15 loans distributed during the month. We continued to evolve the loan application process preferring to interview the women, after they completed a loan application form, to ask some more in-depth and probing questions about the investment choice they were hoping to make.

Monthly report – October 2013

While our cooperation with the women groups has deepened with the third loan round in general, we are experiencing some commitment difficulties from one of the groups. The third loan was dispersed to these women only three weeks ago meaning we will continue the cooperation at least until the loan has been paid back.

Monthly report – June 2013

During the month of May we had a meeting with allthe micro-finance volunteers and the supervisor and discussed about things, which can be improved. First of all the training program needs to be improved, at the moment the training is too difficult for some of the women and we want to train each member individual. We want to make an individual bookkeeping and marketing training. Also we want to improve the way of introducing new volunteers to the project.

Monthly report – March 2013

The month of March has been a whirlwind of loan disbursements. The beginning of the month consisted of finishing up the final trainings for two of the three newest groups and handing out loan applications. Once the members to receive loans had been decided between meetings among Microfinance Team members and the chairwoman of each group, loan disbursements took place rapidly. As of now, the Projects Abroad Tanzanian Microfinance Project is funding 51 women from six different women’s groups around Arusha.

Monthly report – February 2013

In the month of February, the microfinance team at Projects Abroad has begun to move into Phase Two of the project. Three groups have been paying loan installments every week, and now have finished paying for over half of their loans. This has enabled Projects Abroad to give loans to other women in the groups, outside of the initial five. Four additional women in Riverside have been approved for loans of 100,000 shillings each, therefore nine members of the group have been funded.

Monthly report – January 2013

In the month of January, we commenced collection of loan repayments from Riverside Women’s Group and disbursed the previously approved loans to Amani and CHE Group. We also continued to identify suitable borrowers by conducting group and individual interviews with Tupendane, Mshikamano, and Ikusura Patandi. Of the three groups interviewed, we took two of them forward to the next stage.
