Our Animal Care High School Special in Argentina is ideal for any student who enjoys the outdoors and working with animals. This program is based at the Pumakawa Nature Reserve in Villa Rumipal in the province of Cordoba. The reserve is around two hours away from the city of Cordoba (and almost three hours by public transport) and sits on two hectares of hills and forests.
At Pumakawa Nature Reserve, you will work at an animal sanctuary that focuses on the care of a wide variety of animals. These animals have been brought to the center because of injuries or elimination of their natural habitat. Alongside the other volunteers, you will help feed and care for the animals and have the chance to observe how some of the wild animals are treated. You will also help with maintenance work at the center, which is greatly appreciated by the local staff.
During your time at the Animal Care Project, you will live with the other volunteers in a hostel at the sanctuary, in same-gender dorms with good facilities. All heating is done by firewood, so you may get the chance to learn to build and maintain a fireplace. Internet in the reserve is limited, so Wi-Fi access is limited to two days a week for 30 minutes.
When you are not doing volunteer work, there will be plenty to keep you busy. Our local staff will organize recreational activities in the evenings and on the weekends such as trips to the surrounding hills, a bonfire, or a games night.
This project is also available as a 4-week program on select dates. If you stay longer, you will be able to spend more time at your placement and with your fellow volunteers. You will also be taken on more weekend trips, allowing you to experience more of the local culture and do more sightseeing.
