Based in the town of Nanyuki in the heart of Laikipia County, this project allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture, living with a host family and helping bring a smile to the faces of some of the vulnerable children in the local community.
During your time volunteering in Kenya you will work in a children’s center, kindergarten, or care home. Your day will be split between doing practical activities like building, renovating, painting, and decorating to more care based activities including running educational activities and playing with the children. Kenyan children love sports so volunteers are encouraged to get involved with outside games and activities. One of the days may even be a mini sports day.
In many of care centers in Kenya a lack of staff and resources is evident. During your placement you and your fellow volunteers will be able to plan some fun and interactive educational activities to do with the children. The goal is to encourage them to learn while giving them the attention that so many of them need.
During the weekend you will get the opportunity to experience the fantastic scenery and spectacular wildlife in one of Kenya’s mystical forests or wildlife conservancies.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Kenya Care Management Plan.

Working on a building site was something none of us had really experienced and it was a great work out each morning, carrying the rocks in the wheelbarrows and mixing the cement. On the job we had so much fun getting to know the community. Kenyan people are so friendly and welcoming, we all felt like we fitted in."I think the most valuable thing we did while volunteering was give the children some one on one attention which was difficult to provide in the orphanage. We left the placement at 3:00pm every day once we had managed to disentangle ourselves from the younger children. Read more...
