Taking your Elective Placement in Nursing with Projects Abroad

As a nursing student taking your elective abroad, you will experience big differences in the local medical practices from what you see in North America. Placements can suffer from a lack of staff or undertrained staff and medical facilities are often under-resourced due to lack of funding. Another major difference you may experience in many countries is that it is common for a patient’s family to take a more active role in their care.

Many placements will not have the up-to-date equipment you are used to. In addition, due to lack of funds to pay for medical care, patient cases may be in their advanced stages and you may witness some shocking medical conditions. What you will see are highly dedicated and caring medical staff who do their very best in the limited working conditions they have.

Our in-country staff will work with you and your university to tailor your placement according to your needs. You could choose to rotate through departments or focus on your specialism. Your placement will be chosen to best fulfill the requirements of your elective module.

You will learn from experienced senior medical staff who will also supervise you throughout your placement. They will ensure you have a worthwhile time in their medical/care facility. You will be given a dedicated supervisor who is a qualified member of staff. They will be able to discuss specific case studies with you for your coursework.
