Taking your Elective Placement in Medicine with Projects Abroad

Medicine Elective Interns in Scrubs at a Hospital in Mexico

Taking your Medical School Elective abroad with Projects Abroad will be a hugely worthwhile experience. You will be able to work in a medical facility that best suits you. You will often have the opportunity to take part in extra activities such as workshops and outreach programs, and attend seminars with other medical students. This depends on the country and placement you choose.

Our in-country staff will work with you to make sure your placement best suits the medical route you have chosen. You may wish to rotate through departments or focus on your specialism. Whichever it is, we will work with you to ensure the requirements for your elective are met.

You will be working in a developing country so you should expect to see many cases which you may not be familiar with. As many people cannot afford regular medical treatment, you are likely to see some cases more advanced than what you would find in North America. Some you may find shocking. You will learn a lot from your time on the project and will have many questions for your dedicated qualified supervisor. Take a notepad and pen with you every day so you can take notes on specific cases and treatment methods. You can then discuss these with your supervisor. They will ensure you have access to many case studies for your coursework.

If you are not an elective student or would rather take part in our regular Medicine internships, please go to our Medicine page.
