If you are interested in gaining an insight into what being a professional dentist is like in a developing country, join us as an intern in Vietnam. Participating in the Dentistry Project will equip you with the experience and skills necessary to pursue a future career in the field, or help you decide if this is the field you want to study.
During your time as a Dentistry intern in Vietnam, you will be placed in a clinical environment where you will shadow qualified dentists dedicated to providing the best in oral care and hygiene. While you do not need previous dentistry experience to join, you must have completed at least one year of pre-medical or other healthcare related studies.
Your Role as a Dentistry Intern in Vietnam
When you first start your placement, your role will be mainly observational while you learn from the dentists and their staff. You will also help with cleaning tools and preparing the room and equipment before you observe the dental procedures and surgeries as they take place. We encourage you to use this time to ask questions and make notes about what you are seeing.
More tasks and responsibilities may be given to you depending on your experience level and the trust you have gained by developing professional relationships with the staff. Your enthusiasm, willingness to learn, work capacity, and duration of your project will also be taken into account.
Participating in Medical Outreaches
Every week, medical research workshops are held for all of our Medicine & Healthcare interns in Vietnam. During this workshop, you can share your experiences, help prepare medical presentations, and create educational materials focused on promoting good oral health. These presentations and materials are important, as our interns present and distribute them during organized outreach events in the local community.
Dentistry internships in Vietnam are available for shorter periods than the usual 4-week minimum for medical projects. While you will be able to gain valuable experience on a short-term trip, we recommend staying for a longer period to allow yourself more time to get to know the local medical system, see more of a variety of conditions and procedures, and develop stronger relationships with local medical staff.
