As a Projects Abroad Occupational Therapy intern in Morocco you can work in special needs schools and day care centers. The facilities may not be to the standard you are used to. The experience will challenge you to use creativity and enthusiasm to provide care to the children and young adults you are there to help.
As an intern you could work in a day care center for children ages 3 -12 who have a variety of learning disabilities and special needs. The center encourages creativity and personal development. There are gardens and a small area for animals, which can be used for therapy treatments.
We also work with a school for girls with mental disabilities. Here the focus is on developing independence to be able to integrate into mainstream society.
Interning Abroad as an Occupational Therapist in Morocco with Projects Abroad
Your role on your internship will be to support the teachers and local staff. You will work with the children in groups and one-to-one to identify suitable activities and daily routines that will help improve their quality of life. If you have enough experience in the field, you may also be able to help train local staff.
You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Morocco Medicine & Healthcare Management Plan.
While in Morocco you will live with a local host family, who will be happy to introduce you to their culture and lifestyle. You can use the opportunity to hone your French or Arabic language skills. You weekends will be free to socialize with other Projects Abroad volunteers and local people, and Morocco offers plenty of travel opportunities.
