Taking your Nursing Elective in Morocco will ensure that you learn about medical practices in another culture, while also helping the local people who depend on the services provided by the hospital or clinic where you will work. You may experience different medical cases and approaches to treatment than those you would be used to at home. You will gain a lot from your time in Morocco.
You must be a nursing student to do an Elective placement. Projects Abroad will ensure your placement fulfills the requirements of your elective module. We can communicate with your university if necessary and our in-country staff will be there to support your organization pre-departure. While you are interning in Morocco, you will have a dedicated supervisor who will be a trained member of staff.
The staff will spend time with you so you can discuss specific case studies and you can ask any questions you have about your experience in their medical facility. Your work day will normally be from 8am to 4pm during which you will be working at the hospital with your supervisor.
Nursing Electives in Morocco
Your role is that of an intern and you will shadow qualified members of staff and your supervisor. By observing the doctors and nurses, you will learn a lot about a wide range of medical conditions and treatments. If you show enthusiasm and initiative and develop a good relationship with the medical staff, you could gain enough trust to be given more responsibilities. Where you are placed will depend upon your chosen specialty. Options include dermatology, gynecology, pediatrics, and surgery.
Students must speak intermediate French or Arabic in order to fully participate in the nursing projects. If you need to improve your language skills before starting your placement, you can join an Arabic or French Language Course, where you will taught by a qualified local teacher.
In your free time, there are plenty of opportunities to socialize with other students, interns and local people, as well as lots of travel opportunities. By living with a host family, you will be welcomed into a warm Moroccan home and can use the opportunity to practice your French or Arabic language skills.
Nursing Student Electives in Morocco are available for shorter periods than 4 weeks. While you will be able to gain valuable medical experience on a short-term trip, we recommend staying for a longer period to allow yourself more time to get to know the local medical system, see more of a variety of conditions and procedures, and develop stronger relationships with local medical staff.
