As a volunteer with Projects Abroad in Mexico, you will get the chance to experience Mexican culture while contributing to the local community and making a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged. This placement includes intensive Spanish lessons, making it a great project for students with an interest in the Spanish language and anyone wanting to experience cultural immersion.
Your mornings will be spent doing some construction work in the local community. This could include anything from building a toilet block, to plastering and painting a classroom or community hall. You will also have the opportunity to spend time with the children in the community, playing games and doing some fun activities with them.
In the afternoons, you and the other volunteers will receive two hours of Spanish tuition a day. Classes are interactive and you will be given encouragement every step of the way. You can put your new knowledge into practice on a daily basis as you get to know Mexico and mix with your host family and other local people. Whether you want to master the basics or improve the Spanish skills that you already have, the teaching will be adjusted to your level.
Depending on the exact location of the building work, you may live in shared volunteer accommodation or with a local host family. On the weekend, volunteers will visit one of Mexico’s beautiful beaches where they can relax and get ready for the second week of work.
