Volunteer Abroad in Laos
- Location: Vientiane
- Accommodation: Guest house, shared volunteer apartments
- Local languages: Lao, French
Laos is a beautiful destination for travelers, featuring a peaceful Buddhist culture, historical French colonial architecture, wild silk, and two UNESCO World Heritage sites. However, Laos is also an extremely underprivileged nation, with a third of the population living on less than US$1.25 per day, and volunteer assistance is crucial for uplifting disadvantaged communities. Projects Abroad volunteer placements are available for anyone looking to give back, whether you are on a gap year, career break, or looking to travel with purpose during a vacation.
Situated in Southeast Asia, Laos is a landlocked country, sharing borders with Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and China. As its official tourism slogan suggests, Laos is ‘Simply Beautiful’, with an abundance of natural beauty and ancient temples. The country is also well-known for its arts and crafts, particularly silk. Tourism is growing rapidly, but local communities remain deeply affected by poverty and inadequate infrastructure. Children are especially vulnerable, and are often malnourished and have little or no access to the education they need.
As a volunteer in Laos with Projects Abroad, you can help make a difference in the lives of those in need by participating on a worthwhile project, such as caring for children and providing vital educational support in care centers and local schools.
