We've run some amazing projects in India over the years, but in 2016 we're shifting focus to Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Our programs in India are closed until further notice.

Come and join one of our established projects in Sri Lanka or Nepal.

If you've got your heart set on India, get in touch and we'll let you know when we're accepting volunteers again.

You seem interested in our projects! Care to tell us more?
I'd be happy to! Not right now, thanks.

A physical therapy intern takes a young patient for a walk outside a clinic in India

Physical Therapy interns in India with Projects Abroad work alongside highly dedicated individuals whose aim is to improve the quality of life of each patient. As an intern you could work in a variety of areas, from rehabilitation in hospitals to helping children with disabilities in special care schools.

If you are interning in a hospital you will work in the physical therapy department. Here you can shadow and observe the physical therapy staff as they treat patients with a wide variety of conditions. These may include paralysis, respiratory problems, elderly patients, and patients with neurological disorders.

Projects Abroad also has placements in India working in special needs schools for children with mental and physical disabilities, including children who have developmental delays, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and who are mentally disabled. These schools are dedicated to providing exceptional care to the children in a positive environment.

Interning Abroad as a Physical Therapist in India with Projects Abroad

The Projects Abroad Physical Therapy placements are located in Jaipur. The local staff you are working with will be happy for you to learn from them and will help answer your questions. They will talk to their patients mainly in Hindi, but will translate to you in English. Being enthusiastic and becoming a reliable and eager member of the local physical therapy team is the best way to increase your role and responsibilities.

Most interns live with local host families, but if you are based in a school or care center you may stay at the placement itself. You will become part of the diverse Projects Abroad volunteer community and can explore the wonders of India.

Physical Therapy internships in India are available for shorter periods than 4 weeks. While you will be able to gain valuable medical experience on a short-term trip, we recommend staying for a longer period to allow yourself more time to get to know the local medical system, see more of a variety of conditions and procedures, and develop stronger relationships with local medical staff.
