Interning on an International Development Placement in India with Projects Abroad
The main aim of the International Development project is to identify micro-level Income Generation Groups (IGG’s) in impoverished areas and villages, and link them with a local NGO that provides advice and guidance in the form of skills training workshops.
Interns have the opportunity to get involved in some of the following areas:
- General Administration
- Marketing and communications
- Conducting and attending workshops
- Business development
These internships are demanding and you will need to be highly motivated to get the most out of your placement. You will also need to be willing to participate in any task given to you, whether it is brainstorming the next campaign or proof reading a project proposal. If you are open and willing to help where needed, you will gain a well-rounded view of how international development organizations work and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
It is a professional placement, and interns are expected to be punctual, professional, and hard-working. You will be required to work an average of 35 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday. When you arrive at work on your first day, you will be introduced to staff who will be able to advise and support you during your internship, and of course our Projects Abroad staff are always available to support you throughout your stay in Jaipur.
Always remember that the more questions you ask, and the more you show you are willing to learn, the more time your colleagues will spend with you. If you complete every task to the best of your ability, you are certain to return home having gained valuable practical experience for your resume, while also having supported a worthwhile program.
