Projects Abroad volunteers play a game with Ghanaian children in Africa.

Volunteering with Projects Abroad in Ghana is a great way to experience Africa for the first time. Although Ghana is a developing country and has many challenges to face, it is safe and local people are welcoming. Our Care & Community Project is based in Cape Coast and involves working with children from different backgrounds to provide them with a stimulating educational environment.

In the mornings, you will help out at a care center or a children’s home. Here, you will participate in various tasks, which include organizing and running educational games and group activities and improving hygiene practices. All of these activities will be focused on helping us work towards our long-term early childhood development goals for each child, built around our Care Management Plan goals for every placement. You will also support the local staff, and help with daily tasks and maintenance of the facilities.

You can read more detailed information about the aims of the project in our Ghana Care Management Plan.

In the afternoons you will be involved in community work, assisting with tasks such as renovation work, gardening, and other activities that uplift the local community. You will also have the opportunity to take part in a reading club at local soccer practices.

During your time in Ghana, you will live with a local host family, letting you join this small, friendly community and experience their everyday lives. Our local staff also organize fun social events for volunteers, often hosting quiz nights and sharing Ghanaian traditions with the group. On the weekend, our volunteers are treated to a safari beach trip and a visit to the old slave fort and the canopy walkway at Kakum National Park.

If you are a high school student and first-time traveler, you may want to consider in our High School Special in Ghana.
