A Projects Abroad Business internship in Heredia, Costa Rica is a great opportunity for students, graduates, and career breakers to work directly with small-scale entrepreneurs and help them develop and strengthen their businesses. Interns identify individuals and groups who require training or assistance with their entrepreneurial ideas. We work with diverse businesses and you could find yourself working with various entrepreneurs, including bakers, restaurateurs, shopkeepers, and yoga teachers.
The work that you do on this internship is crucial. Many of the entrepreneurs are from low-income backgrounds and depend on the success of their business to support themselves and their families. The knowledge, skills, and experience that you can share with them will prove invaluable.
To participate, you will need to have at least one year’s experience or training in the business or management field. You should also have a strong interest in business and entrepreneurship. It is also important that you are flexible, communicate well, and are willing to learn.
In addition, interns on this project should be at least 18 years old and speak intermediate to advanced Spanish. Spanish skills are crucial for effective communication with local entrepreneurs. If you would like to improve your language skills before starting the internship, you can take part in a Spanish Language Course.
Interning in Business with Projects Abroad in Costa Rica
As an intern, you will work under the supervision of the Projects Abroad Business supervisor in Heredia, helping to ensure that the individuals taking part are provided with the support they need to secure a sustainable future.
On a weekly basis you will be involved in a variety of tasks, which may include the following:
- Writing, reading, and updating business plans
- Developing marketing and advertising strategies
- Providing financial analysis
- Brand development
- Monitoring and mentoring the entrepreneurs’ work
- Regular meetings with the entrepreneurs and Projects Abroad supervisor
- Providing general business guidance and support to the entrepreneurs

Your schedule will be flexible and you will need to be motivated and proactive as you will spend a considerable amount of time working independently. The Business internship in Costa Rica runs throughout the year, except for two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period, as well as during the Easter week.
Through this internship you will gain a unique insight into the process of developing small businesses in a developing country and how the right support and guidance can help people become self-supporting and independent. You will also benefit from spending time in a new environment, learning about a different culture and way of life. It will be a rewarding as well as a challenging experience.
