Global Gap Year: Stage 3 - India Exploration
Projects Abroad India has its office in the city of Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu where all of our volunteer work is located.
To live in India is to participate in a lifestyle that is unlike anything you’ll experience back home. The most mundane tasks often become adventures. Everything is colorful and nothing is predictable. Life – especially in urban areas – is truly chaotic. The sights, sounds and smells that greet you in each new place will overwhelm your senses.

The cultural heritage of India dates back over 5000 years. You’ll find fifteen official languages, a diverse array of religions and spiritual practices, a wide variety of performing arts, colorful festivals almost every day of the year, and tradition and variety in all aspects of life.
Despite India’s colossal size, you will experience a strong sense of community no matter where you are based. You’ll be treated as an exciting addition to any family or project that you join for the Global Gap program.
Global Gap Participants will have a wealth of different projects to choose from while in India for six weeks. Volunteers can teach English in schools, work in care centers or orphanages or work on our model farm in rural Tamil Nadu. Participants can also take part in projects geared more towards internships like Medicine, Journalism or Veterinary Medicine.
Similar to South Africa, Global Gap participants will go on weekend trips with staff to visit sites like Thekkady Natural Park and ancient temples.
