Volunteer Abroad in Vietnam on a Care Project

Care in Vietnam

As a volunteer on a Care project in Vietnam you have an important role to play, whether you are on a school or career break looking for some experience in development work or a trained professional offering the benefit of your experience. Everybody is welcome, provided you are willing to work hard and be committed to the role and to the children you are there to help.

Projects Abroad volunteers work in Hanoi at kindergartens and centers for children with disabilities. Though we can’t solve all the social problems affecting modern day Vietnam, with the help of volunteers we can make a difference to a large number of children.

Volunteering in Vietnam with Children

Care Placement

In whichever volunteer care project you find yourself you need to be ready for a challenge. Many of the children will have had very difficult lives and may be desperate for attention. There are likely to be some who have health problems or who require special attention due to disabilities or HIV/AIDS. Your role is to help improve their lives in whatever way possible.

The care work is often quite varied. It may involve practical care activities like washing and dressing the children, or playing games, sports and, helping older children with their homework. You may even want to take a group out on a trip. Projects Abroad will support you in any way that we can.

Helping with basic education is also important as many of the children arrive at the homes after being orphaned or abandoned and have received little or no previous formal education. Volunteers at these placements assist with interactive activities that enhance the growth and development of the children.

Projects Abroad also offers a Care placement at a center located two hours southwest of Hanoi. This is home to over 80 previously homeless people, about half of whom are children, from infants to 14 years old. Your accommodation will also be at the center, allowing you to form strong relationships with the children and staff. Please let us know when you apply if you are interested in taking part in this placement.

This project is available for less than a month if you don't have time to join us for a month or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for shorter durations for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone participating for a longer period.
