Volunteer abroad in an AIDS/HIV center in Mexico, Ghana, Nepal, and South Africa

International Volunteer Work Helping in HIV/AIDS Centers Abroad

You can do really worthwhile volunteer work abroad by helping out on one of our HIV AIDS projects in Ghana, Mexico, Nepal, or South Africa. Depending on where you go, you can spend your time overseas working to raise awareness about HIV AIDS or assisting in a care home with children affected by the epidemic.

Our Care projects will give you a unique chance to get involved in the local community and develop your own insights about how these conditions are dealt with overseas. Sharing your time and effort to further people’s education about HIV AIDS will be greatly appreciated and will help work towards the goal of prevention. You can expect to work anywhere between four to six hours a day on various activities depending on which country you go to. When working with children, be sure to bring enthusiasm and creativity to your project, as the kids are full of energy!

Volunteer Opportunities Abroad Working with Awareness Campaigns and Children with Projects Abroad

Mexico
You will be working at PAIPID (Proyecto para la Atencion de la Persona Inmuno Deprimida) in Tonala, a district of Guadalajara. PAIPID is a center providing professional care and counseling for people with HIV AIDS and their families. In addition to modern medicine, the center offers alternative treatment such as herbal medicine, physical therapy, and homeopathy. PAIPID acts as a rehabilitation center where patients can temporarily live after undergoing treatment at other hospitals or at home. Most patients staying there are terminally ill and there are many permanent patients, including small children who were tragically born with HIV and orphaned early on in life.

Ghana
The Glona Academy works primarily with HIV AIDS awareness campaigns and education. HIV AIDS and STDs are a cause for concern in many African countries, though the movement for change is particularly strong in Ghana. These afflictions are a serious threat to the future prosperity of Africa and it is important to start controlling these diseases so that local people can live long and healthy lives. The Glona Academy aims to teach people about the dangers of HIV AIDS and STDs by encouraging them to change their behavior so that they are risk free from contracting such diseases. The Ghana AIDS Commission provides relevant information to teach to schools and communities.

Nepal
In Nepal, we work with Manisha Singh Punarjeevan Niwas (MSPN). MSPN specially targets children under the age of 10 who have HIV AIDS. Volunteers working on this project will be caring for and supporting children who live at the center by feeding, playing, and perhaps even teaching some English to them. The children come with their parents and are kept for HIV AIDS treatment. In addition, volunteers will help out by educating the kids about nutritious diets and counselling them on HIV AIDS.

Volunteering on an HIV AIDS Project Overseas

Your work will vary depending on where you go and the center you’re placed in. Wherever you are, you will be helping people who suffer from HIV AIDS and/or raising awareness about the consequences of not taking preventative action. Your contribution to the community will assist those who face the epidemic on a day-to-day basis and will inform people who may not have received previous AIDS awareness education. Work on an AIDS/HIV project will prove to be a challenge, but highly rewarding.
