Senegal volunteers party with Premiership striker El-Hadji Diouf
Senegalese International and Bolton star, El-Hadji Diouf, returned to his home town of St Louis earlier this month to visit his family and donate some sporting equipment to children in St Louis. One of Projects Abroad's host families lives just a few doors away from Diouf's mother and have known the now millionaire footballer since he was a child.
Volunteers and Projects Abroad staff, including Director, Peter Slowe, and Operations Manager, Terry Thornhill, who were visiting our projects in Senegal at the time, met Diouf at the host family's home where he signed autographs and posed for photos. Diouf was particularly interested to hear about our sports projects taking place in St Louis. He also invited our volunteers out the following evening.
St Louis is normally quiet at the time when the meeting took place due to the Ramadan fast, but Diouf opened up a night club and treated everyone to a drink and a good time was had by all. Before leaving Senegal Diouf predicted to our staff that he would score a hat-trick against Newcastle in the following weekend's match, however, he only managed to score two goals against them which still guaranteed their 2-1 victory!
