Volunteers back up words with fundraising action for Romanian Orphans
A couple of years ago some volunteers set off on their trip of a lifetime with a Projects Abroad placement. Little did they know that their trip was to have a profound affect on their own lives and the lives of the children they were working with.
Esther Gilbert, Rebekah Griffin and Dominic McCann were all volunteers who worked in the same orphanage. The three met in Romania and quickly became good friends. They shared a common aim to help do something constructive about the plight of the children in the orphanage. 'The moment when I realised that I simply wanted to help was when I walked through the door, at the very beginning of the first shift,' recalled Esther.
These dedicated individuals agree that their hard work and efforts simply couldn't finish when they left the country. They busily set about organising a trust for orphanages in the area amongst the orphanages where Projects Abroad work in Brasov.
In its short history the fund has really benefited from various people taking on a whole manner of feats. The founders lead from the front. Esther did a sponsored swim and Dominic has just begun a sponsored walk across France.
He anticipates putting his best foot forward for the next month covering over a staggering 450 miles. We of course wish him the best of luck with this and hope that the fund will carry on helping the Romanian orphans for many years to come.
