Why pay to volunteer?

Volunteer in Africa

We do not receive any financial support from the government or outside funding, so volunteers must finance themselves. The money you pay allows us to provide you with unrivalled, first-class support and service. We have built our reputation on this and we believe it is this that makes our projects work for volunteers and recipients alike. You will be working in places where you are genuinely needed and, in addition, we ensure that our partner organizations, schools and institutions across the world don't have to pay for the help of our volunteers.

Where does the money go?

Food, Accommodation & Insurance

The fee you pay covers all of your food and accommodation costs for the duration of your placement. You will also receive comprehensive travel and medical insurance.

In-Country Support

Projects Abroad employs over 250 members of staff overseas. From the moment you are met at the airport, you are part of a team of staff and volunteers in your destination. Our in-country staff are there to make sure your placement runs smoothly and that you are as effective as you can be during your time with us. They also play an important role in organizing your placement and accommodation before you arrive in conjunction with our staff at the Head Office. We pride ourselves on the attention we pay to each individual volunteer. Tell us you are a vegetarian, for example, and our overseas team will make sure your host-family knows what type of vegetarian you are before you arrive!

New Project Development

We arrange placements for volunteers where you can make a valuable contribution and gain a unique and educational experience. Our Overseas team is always on the lookout for new projects and destinations so that we can offer you the variety and quality that we believe makes us the leading volunteer project provider.

Worldwide Recruitment

Approximately 6,500 volunteers join Projects Abroad every year. Individually, our partner schools and organizations benefit from your unique skills and personalities. Collectively, we are able to make a significant difference to the lives of communities around the world. Ever since we were founded in 1992, we have grown and developed, which we aspire to continue doing.

The more volunteers we have, the more exciting ventures we can undertake together.

Administration

Our Administration team are responsible for managing your placement from the moment you decide to join us. We run a completely flexible and therefore highly complex system. Not only do we deal with the numerous and diverse requests and preferences of all of our volunteers, but we also ensure that we have all the necessary information to structure your placement as you wish. We are on hand to answer any pre-departure questions you may have, and we help you sort out the right visa and permits. We then let you know exactly where you will be living and working before you leave.
